An agricultural town in Eastern Balenos, right by the coast and South of Cron Castle. It is known for its peaceful and laid-back lifestyle, despite recent struggles. Its most famous export product is wine produced by Indasil, a Demibeast resident.
The town Chief has always been a member of the Bartali family. The current Chief is Igor Bartali, he will most likely be succeeded by his granddaughter Emma Bartali.
A local imp problem has caused trade with Olvia to the West to become difficult. Imps have also begun attacking vineyards around the town, causing a major issue. Not only that but the town has also been troubled by wild animals mutated by Black Energy.
Velia’s coastal position would have made it an ideal location for a prosperous harbor, unfortunately when the town was constructing a shipyard they ran out of funds and the project was abandoned. The shipyard has been put to use as a shabby storage house.
Many young men from Velia have been deployed to the Western Guard Camp. There is also a sizeable military presence of soldiers there to investigate Cron Castle to the North.
Rumors and Gossip
- A local merchant speaks of a group of smugglers called the Black Rat League. They come into town at night to sell forbidden items. The profit is supposedly good, but risky.
- Very few people seem to like the work supervisor, Santo Manzi, he has a bad reputation for being an outlaw and robbing trade wagons. He treats his goblin workers like dirt.
- A pirate island is located very close to the town, causing pirates to be sighted quite frequently.
- Alustin, the famous Alchemist, sometimes causes accidents.
- Children running around the town speak of an Immortal Alchemist, who turns orphans into heroes.
- A Prophecy found and translated in the Ancient Stone Chamber speaks of the downfall of Velia.
Points of Interest
Velia Town Chapel
The Chapel was built on a hill overlooking the town, right next to it are the barracks housing the soldiers stationed in Velia. By the entrance is a well which predates the chapel. It is thought to be a source of holy water. During droughts it overflows with clear water. The priest in charge of the chapel is Ottavio Ferre. Regular services are held at the chapel.
Lunar Halo Inn
The local inn is owned by Islin Bartali, wife of Igor Bartali. A new cook, David Finto, has recently started to work at the inn.
A short walk South from Velia one can find the Bartali Ossuary. It is a sizeable mausoleum where all of Bartali’s ancestors, the founding family of Balenos, are buried. The entire mausoleum seems to have collapsed all in one night. The guards stationed outside are looking for a grave robber. Currently the ossuary is under the protection of Captain Cliff. Interested researchers are allowed to study the ruins if they have Chief Bartali’s permission. Inside the Ossuary can be found many coffins, skeletal remains and the symbol of Elion is well represented.

Chief Igor Bartalli is chief of Velia and Olvia. He often offers free lodging and food to travelers, as he was one himself in his youth. He still fantasize about adventuring and sometimes talks about rumors around Calpheon. He's married and has the biggest house in the town. His granddaughter, Emma Bartali, is likely to succeed him. Constellation: Giant.
Indasil, master winemaker and demi-beast. His wine goes through a long aging period within Oak Wod Barrels, resulting in a rich and smooth taste. Constellation: Elephant
Alustin, a famous alchemist from a noble Calpheon family, he began dabbling in Alchemy at a relatively late age, right after his wife passed away. He lives with his twin daughters Eileen and Clorince in Velia. He specializes in Black Crystals. He has produced amazing results that seem impossible after such a short time involved in the Alchemy. He is unmatched in the field, especially in terms of developing products for recovery or mental training. Constellation: Key.
- He went to Alejandro’s Farm to investigate rotting pumpkins that sometimes turned into ghosts. He used Growth Spurt Potion on the pumpkins. It was revealed to be the work of the Shadow’s Pawn, who causes misfortune wherever it goes.
Tranan Underfoe, renowned Blacksmith. No one knows why he runs a humble forge in a small town. He is generous and sometimes gives equipment to new adventurers. Constellation: Key.
Emma Bartali, The granddaughter of Chief Igor and Islin, she is suffering from nightmares caused by the Black Energy. She wants to go back to her parents in Olvia, but this isn’t easy due to her Black Energy affliction, something which seems to be hereditary in her family. A necklace from Alustin has reduced these nightmares. She likes to count chickens during the ordinary days on the farm to pass the time. Constellation: Sealing Stone
